Functional Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is a delicate plastic surgery procedure for correcting sagging or drooping upper eyelids. Upper eyelids that excessively sag or droop can affect peripheral vision, making daily activities such as driving much more difficult.
Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty eliminates the drooping of skin into the visual field greatly improving peripheral vision. A functional upper eyelid blepharoplasty procedure may be covered by medical insurance if it is deemed medically necessary by your insurance carrier. Detailed photographs demonstrating the redundant tissue hanging on or over the eyelashes are needed for insurance approval. In addition, some insurance carriers require a detailed peripheral visual field assessment which we will help you determine at the time of your consultation. Some insurance carriers require pre-certification and others simply require proper documentation. Dr. Lowry has a wealth of experience in functional/ reconstructive Blepharoplasty and will be able to help you determine if your eyelids would be medically eligible for repair.
